What is the buddy program?

Our buddy system pairs up Right2Education students with an AUC/UvA/VU student in order to facilitate integration into the wider city of Amsterdam. This can be an opportunity for language practice and help with homework, but for many it is also a social opportunity to meet new people, explore Amsterdam together, and simply hang out.

The value of the buddy program

As with any education, we think it’s important to have a balance between the academics and social activities. That is why we organise social events every week and have a buddy system which partners up Right2Education students with students at Amsterdam universities. Our initiative is about building a community based on shared environments.

Meeting your buddy

The idea is that you meet your buddy at least once a week, but it is up to you and your buddy when and where that will take place. Every week R2E organises events, which you and your buddy can attend together (see photos below). This counts as meeting once a week. But you can also decide to meet somewhere else, for example in the library, at a cafe, in the park, at home, in the AB, etc. You also get to decide what you want your meetings to be like: you can ask for help with your homework or language practice, you can just chat, get to know each other and chill, you can do a fun activity etc. It is completely up to you and your buddy.

Interested in getting a buddy?

Our buddy coordinators will come to your R2E classes at the beginning of the 8-week course and then you can sign up to get a buddy. Sometimes they also send a form in the class group chats.
