The Application Process
Who can apply?
Anyone with a refugee background can apply. There are no age restrictions or any other requirements. Having a status is also not required.
Do you want to join our classes? Read here how to apply.
The first step is filling in the application form on our website. Application timeline:
Classes starting in September: Application form available in July.
Classes starting in November: Application form available in September.
Classes starting in February: Application form available in December.
Classes starting in April: Application form available in February.
Our classes often have more applicants than available spots. We randomly select applicants from those who apply through our website. If selected, applicants are invited to an application session where we provide information about our classes, the buddy program, and upcoming events. They will also complete a brief placement test, which helps us understand their language level—it's not an exam.
Being invited to an application session doesn't guarantee enrollment. After the session, we place students into appropriate classes. If there are more applicants than spots, we randomly select students for enrolment. Once selected, we inform new students and send them information brochures to prepare for their classes.
Join us in learning and integrating through language—apply now and take the first step towards improving your language skills!
Application for Intensives
To apply for our intensive classes, students also need to fill out an application form.
Application timeline:
Classes starting in January: Application form available online in October.
Classes starting in June: Application form available online in April.
Applicants are randomly selected for the course. Selected students will receive a phone call to confirm their availability for attending classes 4 times a week and their commitment to the course.
Once admitted, we assist the student in obtaining a UvA-ID, which may take a few weeks. We provide access to Canvas and other course materials, including textbooks and online resources.
After these preparations, the student will begin the course.
Are you already studying at R2E?
If you are already studying with R2E and you want to continue with the next course, you can get priority. This means you do not have to apply again. However, there is a limit to how often you can get priority. Here is our policy:
Students can move up/down classes a maximum of 2 times within a language
If they want to move up, they must have passed the previous level
Students can retake the same level within a language a maximum of 1 time
If students wish to switch to another language, they will be treated as a new student and will not be prioritized
For more information, check our policy below.

R2E courses are often oversubscribed. This means that more people are applying than we have spots for. We are always trying to offer as many courses and spots as possible, but the demand is very high. That is why we randomly have to select students and, unfortunately, have to reject people. We hope you try again for the next course.
